Monday December 23, 2013

I went with news reporters and photographers to the Oneida County Court House to get the details on the results of a criminals sentence. This person was convicted of murder and pled guilty. this person was then sent aced to 24 years to life in prison.

After that I went along with the camera crew and reporters to a shooting in Cooperstown. Where I observed video footage being taken of the scene and interviews of witnesses that were there at the time of the shooting to get there word on what they thought about the given situation. Cops flooded the roads and blocked them off, they figured it was the safer way to go.

I watched a live broadcast at 12 in front of the building  where a man was held at gun point earlier that day. Stores went into lock down and the owner was the one to fire shots in self defense. The man then fled the store and was considered dangerous and armed. Streets were aligned with state troopers along with the K-9 unit.

This live production was televised through a tech van. Where they were able to air footage directly to the television station. Later, I watched a photographer take that video and edit it to get it ready for the news at 5 pm.
On Monday December 16th, 2013 I began my internship  with WKTV. Where I was introduced to the computer program where the news stories are organized and ready to be read. This was done in a program called AP ENPS. I watched over how they edit video and showed "teases" of the video that was taken for the story. They use cassette tapes to transfer and recored videos as well as recording stories. I shadowed a director of a live news feed as she switched cameras and kept track of the time, she also gave cues to the talents to let them know when to start. The director also let the talent know which stories and information to discuss. I went along with video photographers in the field to get the scoop on a story and interviewed the victim about a break in before christmas time. After this I went back to the studio and watched  a live broadcast from inside the studio.
